Receiving the Word – Exposition of James Week Five

By Among The Tares Mar16,2022

Welcome to week five of our study on the Epistle of James! Today we will look at James 1:21-25 and Jen’s last video from her series, which focuses on prayer and people. We should strive to pray before, during if necessary, and after our study sessions as well as find a group of people to study with if we haven’t already. Thankfully we have that part covered with our small group, although it’s great to study with multiple groups as well!

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, thank you once again for this special time together, and for this wonderful small group of women who care for your Word and for each other. May we be blessed by the knowledge we are about to receive, and please be with us as we continue to improve and grow because of the things we learn from the Book of James. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Introduction

Today, we will be watching Jen’s last video in her series about how to study the Bible. She will focus on the importance and value of prayer and people. These are the points to keep in mind as we watch the video:

Application

Watch Jen’s day 5 video on ESV.org, read James 1:21-25, and answer questions 1-4 on page 5 of the workbook.

Closing Prayer

Father, we want to be diligent as lifelong learners especially in our study of Scriptures, not only to receive Your approval, but to more fully understand Your plan for our lives. Thank You for the Bible that’s like a road map showing us where to go and how to get there. It is Your Spirit that illumines our path so that we do not walk in the dark, but we walk in the power of Your Holy Spirit as You show us the way to life everlasting. Keep us on the right path, growing and maturing in our faith, and in our love to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.[1]

Next Week

Next week we will be taking a look at James 1:26-27 and answering questions 5-8 on page 5 of the workbook. Have a wonderful week, ladies!
